A document regarding Minister Adam Daniel Rotfeld was discovered during the documentation work on the so-called the list of Ładosia. It covers the names of all people of Jewish descent, for whom during the Second World War Polish diplomats from Bern – in cooperation with Jewish organizations – fabricated the citizenship certificates of the Republic of Paraguay. This list includes over a thousand names of people of nationality or of Jewish origin from Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Slovakia and many other European countries. Such items were bought during the Holocaust by members of the so-called “Berne Group” from the consul of honor Paraguay, Swiss lawyer Rudolf Hügli. They were to protect against deportation to German extermination camps. The then Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland postulated an exchange of holders of these passports for Germans interned in Latin American countries. According to current knowledge, passports and other documents of Paraguay contributed to the rescue of at least several hundred people, among whom were well-known personalities. From the found document shows that the father of the future Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Dr. Leon Rothfeld, lawyer from Przemyśl, received citizenship of Paraguay ” along with the whole family. ” The document also included a request for sending passport photographs, on the basis of which the family family passport was to be issued to the Rothfeld family (Rotfeld). From the research carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Bern, it appears that the document is backdated. It was exhibited in April 1943, when Dr. Rothfeld and his wife were probably dead and two of his children were in hiding. The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Bern Jakub Kumoch immediately informed prof. Adam D. Rotfeld about the discovery made by diplomats. This case was not known before. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland remains in contact with numerous survivors as a result of the “Berne Group” actions, as well as their descendants and researchers of the Holocaust dealing with the issuance of passports at the time. New descendants of Survivors from Israel, the Netherlands, the USA and other countries are reporting all the time. During the Second World War in Switzerland, Polish diplomats from the so-called the Berne group produced false Latin American passports to save Jews from the Holocaust. Its members included Ambassador Aleksander Ładoś, his deputy Stefan Ryniewicz, consul Konstanty Rokicki and diplomat Juliusz Kuehl. According to the analysis carried out by the Polish Embassy in Switzerland, Rokicki exhibited during the Second World War false passports of Paraguay, which saved the lives of many Jews in occupied Poland.
