On 11 June 2018, Édouard Philippe welcomed the Prime Minister of Belgium for bilateral talks between France and Belgium, styled on the “Val Duchesse” negotiations. These were held at the new Palais de Justice de Paris (Paris Law Courts, in the 17th arrondissement) and attended by the Ministers of the Interior and Justice alongside the counter-terrorism judicial authorities.

This visit is in keeping with the commitments made during a previous meeting in Brussels on 16 October 2017. The two Prime Ministers had agreed to deepen the bilateral cooperation in internal security and counter-terrorism matters, set in motion in February 2016 in the wake of the terrorist attacks that struck France and Belgium.

These new talks were an opportunity to reiterate the Government’s determination to bolster this cooperation.
