A meeting of foreign ministers of Poland and Hungary in Warsaw

– We are satisfied with the development of Polish-Hungarian relations in recent years, which is noticeable at every level. In addition to numerous bilateral meetings, also thanks to meetings in the framework of regional structures, our contacts are really extremely regular – said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz during a meeting with the head of the Hungarian diplomacy Péter Szijjártó.

During today’s talks, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz pointed to the above-standard level of Poland’s relations with Hungary, the best example of which is the fact that Viktor Orbán made his first foreign visit after taking up the post of Hungarian Prime Minister in Warsaw. – The intensity and regularity of Polish-Hungarian contacts serves to create a positive climate and strengthen the special bond between our societies and deepen knowledge about mutual culture and historical heritage – said the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The talks between the heads of the Polish and Hungarian diplomacy also concerned the migration crisis and its effects on European security. Ministers also discussed the main topics of the current European Union agenda, including the future of the Community, the EU’s Multi-Annual Financial Framework and the enlargement of the Union. – We came to the conclusion that we have a similar vision of the European Union – it is a competitive European Union, developing economically, non-protectionist, which has democratic legitimacy rooted in the will of national parliaments – said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz. – We will strive to maintain the essential role of the cohesion fund, the common agricultural policy, and we also see the need to develop other areas of the EU – emphasized the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the part devoted to security policy ministers discussed the preparations for this year’s NATO summit, the situation in the east of Ukraine and current events in the Middle East.

Ministers Czaputowicz and Szijjártó also talked about regional cooperation, especially within the Visegrad Group, of which Hungary currently presides. The head of Polish diplomacy stressed that this group is invariably a key element of our regional cooperation, the nucleus of which is the European agenda. He also declared readiness to fully cooperate with Visegrad partners, especially in the key period of negotiation of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework after 2020.
