The Speaker has received applications for an Emergency debate on military action in Syria.
What is an Emergency debate?
An Emergency debate is a debate called at short notice in the House of Commons when a matter needs to be discussed urgently. An MP may apply to the Speaker for an emergency debate under the rules of Standing Order No. 24.
Applications to the Speaker
The Speaker has received applications for an Emergency debate on military action in Syria. He has written to Theresa May MP explaining why an application from Alison McGovern MP is likely to be accepted ahead of the Prime Minister’s application.
