WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) today introduced legislation that would pave the way for the replacement of the Riverside Bridge in Ozark, Mo. The century-old bridge has been closed for five of the last seven years, with its most recent closure dating back to July 2015.

“The flood-related closure of the Riverside Bridge is adding to emergency response times, hurting local businesses, and making it difficult for area residents to get around,” Blunt said. “Replacing the bridge will provide a long-term solution to the frequent closures that have disrupted travel across this vital north-south connection over the Finley River.”

Blunt’s bill will expedite the construction of a new bridge, adjacent to the Riverside Bridge, by eliminating statutory restrictions that prevent new construction in the area identified by experts as the best location for the project.

Blunt continued, “Maintaining and improving our state’s infrastructure is critical for boosting economic growth and improving the quality of life for Missourians. I’ve heard from many residents and officials in Ozark who have pressed the need to replace the Riverside Bridge, and I will work to get this bill passed by Congress and signed into law as quickly as possible so that project can move forward.”

U.S. Representative Billy Long (Mo.) is planning to introduce companion legislation in the House.
