IDN28504 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds and Damaging Surf. for Lord Howe Island. Issued at 9:09 pm EST on Sunday 14 May 2017. HEADLINE: GALE FORCE WIND AND DAMAGING SURF EXPECTED AT LORD HOWE ISLAND ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY Weather Situation A low pressure system is expected to pass just to the south of Lord Howe Island during Monday, bringing deteriorating conditions from early Monday. Gale force winds are forecast to develop Monday afternoon, and persist into Tuesday, as the low deepens. Damaging Surf conditions are expected on Tuesday. The average wind speed is expected to reach 65km/h, with peak gusts exceeding 90km/h from Monday afternoon. Damaging surf conditions, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, are likely to produce significant beach erosion on Tuesday. The NSW State Emergency Service advise you to: * Stay indoors away from windows and keep children indoors. * Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items. * Stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas. * Don't walk, ride your bicycle or drive through flood water and keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
